Jax State Preceptor is an independent placement service devoted to Jacksonville State University nursing students. We find preceptors and clinical sites that fit each JSU course, prepare what JSU's faculty need to clear them, and stay with you until your hours are done.

Built around one school's clinical path
We focus on JSU because its clinical path has a shape of its own. The BSN-DNP awards an MSN partway through, its four NP practicums are each paired with a lecture course and offered once a year, the DNP residency keeps one preceptor and site for 16 months, and clearance begins with malpractice coverage purchased through the School of Nursing.
Knowing that path in detail is what lets us match well. When a student names a course, we already know its term, its catalog hours, the patients it calls for and what has to be in place before anyone contacts a site. That groundwork turns a vague search into a precise one from the first day. It also means knowing where JSU's own documents disagree, such as the differing hour totals for the BSN-DNP, and sending students to the source that settles each one.

How we fit alongside JSU
Whether JSU helps with your placement or not, we find you a preceptor and site that meet its rules. JSU's faculty give the final approval on every preceptor and site; our job is to make sure what reaches them is complete and fits JSU's requirements the first time. If part of your placement is already arranged, we build around it and fill in the rest.
We also follow JSU's order of steps. Your malpractice coverage is approved before any practicum or residency site is contacted, your CastleBranch record is checked for anything that lapses mid-term, and any change to your planned clinical setting goes through JSU as its graduate handbook describes. Where we search
Our searches follow our students. JSU's online programs reach nurses across Alabama, from Jacksonville, Anniston and Gadsden to Birmingham, Huntsville, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa and Mobile, and the NP tracks also accept residents of Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Tennessee. Across all of these areas, we weigh drive times, the patient populations each course calls for and each site's own onboarding steps before a name goes forward.
Each area has its own mix of independent practices, hospital systems and rural clinics, and its own lead times. Every JSU program with a clinical component
The BSN-DNP family and acute care tracks are at the center of what we do, and we support every JSU program with clinical or practicum hours: the Post-Master's DNP residencies, the MSN in Population Health with its two 254-hour practicums, the Nursing Education concentration and certificate with a 100-hour teaching practicum, STEP RN-BSN clinical experiences, and the traditional BSN's preceptor practicum.
For each one, the search starts from the course and the setting it calls for, whether that is a family practice, an acute care unit, a community health program or a collegiate nursing classroom. We match students to your practice and your schedule and prepare the details JSU's faculty review, so hosting takes as little of your time as possible. Can you plan my whole JSU clinical sequence?
Yes. Planning the four NP practicums and the DNP residency as one sequence lets us line up each preceptor ahead of its term and look for settings that cover the patient mix across courses.
