What Huntsville Hospital publishes for graduate students
Huntsville Hospital Health System keeps a section for nurse practitioner and nurse midwife students in graduate nursing programs. Its process runs in four parts.

Crestwood Medical Center became part of Huntsville Hospital Health System on April 1, 2026, and it posts no student page of its own. With Crestwood and Huntsville Hospital now under one system, the system's graduate student section is the one published guide for hospital-based clinicians in Huntsville.
Much of what a JSU FNP student needs happens outside hospital walls anyway, in family practices, internal medicine offices, urgent care and community clinics across north Alabama. JSU already treats the city as clinical ground for its campus students: its BSN page lists Huntsville among the places bachelor's students travel for clinicals. For graduate students, the fit comes down to the preceptor, the patient mix and the course. Each of those offices sets its own onboarding, which we confirm with the practice before anything reaches JSU.

A practice that is right for a 120-hour spring term may not carry a 250-hour fall term, so we weigh volume and schedule against each course before we propose a match.
The residency year and the drive to Jacksonville
For DNP students the anchor date is late May, when, per JSU's timeline, each student is paired with a preceptor and clinical site in DNP 8796; a smaller cohort starts in August. The pairing then has to hold through fall proposal and IRB work, a spring implementation of eight to ten weeks with four meetings on site, and results shared at the organization in July.
Where a system asks whether you already have a preceptor, arriving with one is an advantage. Campus days, meanwhile, mean a drive southeast to Jacksonville.
