Georgia is one of just five states whose residents JSU considers for its FNP and AGACNP tracks. Georgia's board leaves APRN programs out of its approval work, so a JSU practicum there turns on who holds which license, and a health system in Rome already carries JSU on its NP agreement list.

Where Georgia stands in JSU's rules
JSU's BSN-DNP nurse practitioner tracks take applicants from five Southeastern states, Georgia among them. Its other graduate programs have no state list, though anyone living outside Alabama is asked to contact the School of Nursing before applying.

Georgia checks licenses, not APRN programs
Georgia's nursing board, an arm of the Secretary of State, keeps post-licensure education, nurse practitioner programs included, outside its approval process. An Alabama school placing an NP student in a Georgia practice has nothing to file with it.
The board looks at licenses instead, and its rule reaches three people. You, as a Georgia resident logging hours for a school based elsewhere, need an RN license from Georgia, or a multistate license some other compact state issued. Your faculty and your preceptor, if they teach you in Georgia face to face or remotely, need the same. For NP education in particular, the board expects an APRN authorized to practice in Georgia to handle the clinical teaching.
Georgia has been a compact member for RNs since early 2018; the separate APRN Compact has not passed there. Delegated practice and Georgia's preceptor credit
Georgia is restricted territory in AANP's classification. NPs there need a physician to delegate authority or supervise, and their Schedule II prescribing is capped, so the practice that hosts you runs on that delegation and your prescribing experience reflects it.
Georgia has a separate tax credit for its licensed physicians, APRNs and PAs who precept in community settings, which HB 144 revised and extended, according to the state's AHEC. Only learners enrolled at Georgia schools count, so a JSU rotation sits beyond its reach.
Floyd in Rome, and Georgia's bigger metros
Not far across the state line from JSU, Atrium Health Floyd in Rome, which partners with Harbin Clinic, is the one health system found that names JSU for NP students. Its current list of active school agreements for medical and APP learners includes Jacksonville State University for NP students, in place since May 2023 on automatic renewal.
Floyd runs a tight process. It has stopped adding new school agreements, which gives JSU's existing listing real value. Before an application moves, someone on Floyd's staff or in an affiliated practice has to say yes to hosting you, a badge requires compliant ACEMAPP status, and Floyd asks students not to phone its clinicians or facilities while applications are pending. Submissions must arrive three months or more before the rotation, inside these windows:

A listing records an agreement between two institutions, not a reserved spot for one student. Beyond Rome, most Georgians live in metro Atlanta, roughly 6.5 million strong by the Census Bureau's 2025 count and home to Piedmont, Wellstar, Emory Healthcare, Northside and Grady; Augusta, Savannah and Columbus follow. Their handling of outside NP students was not checked, so treat them as examples, not JSU sites.
Campus trips and residency timing from Georgia
JSU's online tracks still bring you to Jacksonville for events such as orientation, simulation on site and the July Dissemination Day, with immersion dates unpublished; the on-campus guide has what JSU posts. From northwest Georgia the drive is short, while Savannah or Augusta turns a campus day into a trip.

Questions JSU students ask
Does JSU need Georgia Board of Nursing approval for a Georgia practicum?
Georgia's board keeps post-licensure and APRN education out of its approval work, so JSU has no program filing to make there. The rules land on individuals instead: you, your faculty and your preceptor need a Georgia or multistate license, and NP clinical teaching should come from an APRN authorized in Georgia. JSU's faculty still clear each preceptor and site.
Could a Georgia physician serve as my JSU NP preceptor?
Georgia's board expects NP students' clinical teaching to come from an APRN authorized in Georgia. JSU has not published its own NP preceptor criteria, so have your course faculty reconcile the two before you settle on a site staffed only by physicians. A Georgia NP preceptor is the simplest choice.
Does "not yet determined" mean I can't become an NP in Georgia?
It means JSU has not stated whether its NP tracks meet Georgia's requirements, not that they fall short. The disclosure dates from 2021 even though JSU says it reviews disclosures twice a year, so read the current version on JSU's consumer page and check Georgia's APRN authorization requirements before you apply.
Will a Georgia preceptor earn Georgia's tax credit for hosting a JSU student?
Georgia's credit only counts learners at Georgia schools, so hosting a JSU student falls outside it. Georgia clinicians who host JSU students do it for professional reasons, which is exactly why a complete, organized request from your side is worth the effort.
