JSU's NP licensure disclosure, state by state
JSU posts professional licensure disclosures for its two BSN-DNP nurse practitioner tracks. Dated October 15, 2021, they mark Alabama "Yes" and every other state and DC "Not yet determined." This page reads those disclosures, explains where NC-SARA fits, and reports what several state agencies' own lists showed about JSU in September 2026.

What the two disclosures say
JSU's consumer disclosures page links one PDF for the BSN-DNP Family Nurse Practitioner track and one for the BSN-DNP Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP track. Both carry the same program code, CIP 51.3818, and both read "Updated October 15, 2021."
The answers are almost identical from top to bottom. Alabama is marked "Yes." Each of the other 49 states and the District of Columbia reads "Not yet determined, but program meets national standard and/or AL licensure may offer reciprocity." Neither track lists a single state as "No."
"Not yet determined" is not a refusal and not an approval. It means that, as of the document's date, JSU had not settled the question for that state. The second half of the phrase points to two possible routes, a national standard and reciprocity, without saying which applies where. If you plan to seek NP licensure outside Alabama, treat your target state's board as the deciding source and ask JSU for its current view.
Why the 2021 date matters
JSU's disclosures page says these documents are reviewed and updated on March 15 and October 15 each year. The NP PDFs still carry the October 2021 date, so they are several review cycles behind the schedule JSU describes. The content may still be accurate, but the date alone is reason to ask.
Coverage is also narrow. Disclosures are posted for the two BSN-DNP NP tracks only. No disclosure PDF appears for the Post-Master's DNP, the MSN in Population Health or its concentrations, or the graduate certificates. Those programs lead to different outcomes than NP licensure, but students outside Alabama still have reason to check state rules before enrolling.
For the programs without a disclosure, JSU's own pages ask non-Alabama residents to contact the School of Nursing before applying, and the DNP pages add that some JSU nursing programs may not be available in every state. That contact, by title rather than name, is where a state question gets a current answer.
The five NP states side by side
The disclosure covers 50 states and DC, but JSU's NP tracks consider applicants from only five states. Our admission states guide explains that rule; this table sets the disclosure next to how each state treats clinical placements by programs from elsewhere.

NC-SARA participation
JSU's student complaints page states that "Jacksonville State University has been approved to participate in the National Council for State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA)." The same page sets out how distance-education students can raise a complaint, including through JSU's representative at the Alabama Commission on Higher Education.
NC-SARA participation and a licensure disclosure answer different questions. The disclosure speaks to licensure after the program, while SARA, as its full name suggests, concerns state authorization of distance education across member states.
SARA can matter to a state's clinical rules too. Wyoming, for example, lets post-licensure programs place students without board approval as long as they notify the board in writing and are registered with the state's education department or take part in NC-SARA. Other states set their own terms regardless of SARA, as the next section shows.
What state lists showed in September 2026
Some states publish lists of out-of-state programs cleared to place students there. On September 27, 2026, these lists did not include JSU:

A missing name reflects one list on one date; it does not say whether JSU has applied or would need to for its students. Arizona and Louisiana could not be checked because their board sites blocked the request.
Mississippi aside, these results mainly matter to a student who moves during the program, since the NP tracks admit only five states. MSN and Post-Master's DNP students outside Alabama should ask JSU how their own state treats their program.
Mississippi and Tennessee: the two to ask about
Mississippi is the case to raise with JSU first. JSU's NP tracks accept Mississippi residents, yet Mississippi's higher education board (IHL) examines programs from other states before their students train in Mississippi, wants requests at least four months ahead and relies on SARA or a comparable authorization. JSU did not appear on that board's August 2026 list. Before you plan clinicals in Mississippi, ask your program coordinator how JSU handles that review; our Mississippi guide has the state's details.
Tennessee is less settled. A Tennessee bill proposed a two-year moratorium on approving out-of-state programs that seek to place students in the state, while keeping earlier approvals. Whether it was enacted is unconfirmed, and no current Tennessee Board of Nursing approval rule was found. Questions JSU students ask
Is JSU's online NP program approved in my state?
JSU's 2021 licensure disclosure marks Alabama "Yes" and every other state "Not yet determined." Separately, the NP tracks only consider residents of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Tennessee. If you live in one of the four states besides Alabama, check with the School of Nursing on where it stands today, and read your state board's rules.
What does "Not yet determined" mean on JSU's disclosure?
It means JSU had not concluded whether its NP program meets that state's licensure requirements when the disclosure was dated in October 2021. The wording adds that the program meets a national standard and that Alabama licensure may offer reciprocity, but it does not settle any state. Your target state's board makes the final call.
Does JSU publish a licensure disclosure for the Post-Master's DNP?
Not on its consumer disclosures page as of September 2026. JSU posts disclosures for the BSN-DNP FNP and AGACNP tracks only, with none for the Post-Master's DNP, the MSN programs or the graduate certificates. JSU asks students outside Alabama to contact the School of Nursing about availability in their state.
Is Jacksonville State University part of NC-SARA?
Yes. JSU's student complaints page reports that the university is an approved NC-SARA participant. That page also explains the complaint process for distance-education students, which includes JSU's representative at the Alabama Commission on Higher Education. SARA participation sits apart from the licensure disclosure, which covers only the BSN-DNP NP tracks and marks Alabama alone as Yes.
Can I do JSU clinicals in Mississippi?
JSU's NP tracks accept Mississippi residents, but Mississippi's higher education board reviews programs from other states before their students do clinicals there, and JSU was not on its August 2026 list of reviewed programs. Ask your program coordinator how JSU handles Mississippi placements before you commit to a site in the state.
