JSU's AGACNP practicums, ANP 7869 to ANP 7877
JSU's acute care track carries its precepted NP hours in four ANP practicum courses that run spring, summer, fall and spring. The 2026-27 catalog lists 70, 210, 250 and 280 hours, yet both AGACNP plans of study print 110 for Practicum I, and an older handbook counted its 70 hours as simulation. Here is how those figures line up, and how we plan acute care preceptors around them.

The ANP practicums at a glance
JSU calls the track AGACNP on its web pages but prints ANP as the course prefix, and its clinical partner page invites sites to host "FNP and ANP students." The catalog describes the courses as care for "late adolescent, adult, and geriatric" clients.

As in the family track, Practicum I opens only once the advanced assessment, pathophysiology and pharmacology courses (NU 7007, NU 7013, NU 7020) are complete. Terms offered and corequisite rules are the same as in the family track, which the FNP practicums guide covers course by course.
Practicum I: 70 hours or 110?
JSU's own documents give two numbers for ANP 7869, and one older source labels the hours differently again. The catalog is JSU's current reference, so 70 is the figure to start from, but the plans of study are the documents many students keep open while they register.

Two questions follow, and only JSU can settle them: how many hours your Practicum I cohort must log, and whether those hours are simulation, direct patient care beside a preceptor, or a mix. Put both to the ANP track clinical coordinator or your ANP 7869 course faculty during the fall that precedes Practicum I, and file the reply with your plan of study.
Plan Practicum I only after your course faculty confirm the count and the setting: the catalog says 70 hours, both AGACNP plans of study say 110, and the 2024-25 handbook treated the 70 as simulation.
Simulation and the first acute care spring
JSU's AGACNP track page says NP students build their clinical hours from "simulation and direct patient care," and the South Complex Annex in Jacksonville houses the School of Nursing's high-fidelity simulation center and low-fidelity labs. JSU names on-site simulated learning among the reasons its online DNP students may be called to campus, so part of Practicum I could mean a trip to Jacksonville. If your faculty confirm that Practicum I is fully simulation-based, your first preceptor need moves to ANP 7873 in summer. If they count some or all of it as precepted time, an acute care preceptor has to be ready in January. Either way, the answer shapes when we begin searching. Acute care settings for Practicums II to IV
From summer onward the hours build fast. ANP 7873 carries 210, ANP 7875 rises to 250, and ANP 7877 asks for 280, the heaviest single practicum in either JSU NP track. For those terms we look for acute care preceptors who see adults and older adults in hospital settings, such as hospitalist teams, intensive care, emergency departments and inpatient specialty services, since that is the population the ANP courses describe.
Hospital systems often publish lead times of their own. Over the Georgia line, Atrium Health Floyd in Rome names Jacksonville State University among its current NP school agreements, but a Floyd clinician must first say yes to hosting you, and applications are due at least three months out within set windows. In north Alabama, Huntsville Hospital's NP student registration requires a current affiliation agreement and asks whether a preceptor has already been identified.

Paired courses, older hour figures and totals
Each ANP practicum is a corequisite of its lecture course, and JSU's rule is that failing one or both means retaking the pair together. Every ANP course runs in one term a year, so a retake typically waits a year for that term to return (our reading of the schedule). The hours have also moved over time. The 2024-25 handbook listed the AGACNP practicums at 70, 210, 210 and 210 under the old numbering, while the 2026-27 catalog raises Practicum III to 250 and Practicum IV to 280. Questions JSU students ask
Is ANP 7869 at JSU 70 or 110 clinical hours?
JSU prints both. The 2026-27 catalog and the program timeline give 70, while the fall and spring AGACNP plans of study give 110. The catalog is the current reference, but the number your cohort must log should come from your ANP 7869 course faculty or the ANP track clinical coordinator before the spring term opens.
Are AGACNP Practicum I hours at JSU done in simulation?
The 2024-25 graduate handbook described the 70 hours as simulation practicum hours, while the 2026-27 catalog now calls them clinical practicum hours. JSU also runs a high-fidelity simulation center at the South Complex Annex. Your course faculty can say which description governs your cohort, and that answer decides whether January needs a preceptor.
Why do JSU course numbers say ANP instead of AGACNP?
ANP is the prefix JSU's catalog uses for the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP courses, even though the program pages say AGACNP. The fall plan of study also prints the residency block as ANP 8796 to 8799, where the catalog uses the DNP prefix. Register and describe your courses using the catalog's numbers.
What patient ages do JSU's acute care practicums cover?
The catalog describes the ANP courses as care for late adolescent, adult and geriatric clients. That points your preceptor search toward adult and older-adult acute care services, such as hospital medicine or critical care, rather than pediatric units. Your course faculty confirm whether a given service fits the practicum.
Does Atrium Health Floyd take JSU nurse practitioner students?
Floyd's own agreement list, updated in July 2026, names Jacksonville State University for NP students with automatic renewal. Floyd still needs one of its clinicians to agree to precept you first, wants the application at least three months ahead, and asks students not to call its clinicians or facilities about applications.
