JSU nursing and New York: the registration question comes first
Two rules shape a New Yorker's options at JSU. The FNP and AGACNP tracks consider only residents of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Tennessee, and New York keeps out-of-state and online nursing programs away from its clinical sites until NYSED has registered or approved them. The Post-Master's DNP and the MSN carry no JSU state list, so they start with the School of Nursing.

NYSED registration governs everything else
Nurse licensing in New York is an education-department job: NYSED's Office of the Professions runs it, working with the State Board for Nursing. Each rule below lands on a JSU student in its own way.

JSU's standing with NYSED was not checked. NYSED confirms a program's status by email when given its name and address, but the School of Nursing is the first place to ask.

JSU's NP licensure disclosure, unchanged since October 15, 2021, lists New York as not yet determined, like every state other than Alabama; the licensure disclosure page explains it.
Practice rules and New York's health systems
AANP files New York as full practice, though newer NPs, those under 3,600 practice hours, keep a collaborating physician on a written agreement with protocols. The compact's own map shows no New York bill pending.
The New York City metro dwarfs the rest, as the table shows. Examples of the systems run from NYC Health + Hospitals, Northwell Health and NewYork-Presbyterian to Mount Sinai Health System and, in Rochester, UR Medicine's medical center.

If you move to one of JSU's five states
A home in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi or Tennessee brings you into the group JSU considers for its NP tracks, with admission still JSU's call; the five-state rule page shows JSU's wording. Since New York's license is single-state and all five of those states are compact members, you would license in the new home state, which can issue a multistate license. Questions JSU students ask
Can I do JSU's FNP clinicals in New York City?
Two separate rules stand in the way. JSU's FNP track considers applicants living in five Southern states only, and New York lets NP students train in the state only when their NP program holds NYSED registration, with federal VA and military sites excepted.
Does NC-SARA let JSU place students in New York?
Not by itself. In NYSED's reading, clinical work in any licensed profession makes a school physically present in New York, and the Office of the Professions must clear that presence beforehand or exempt it, SARA membership notwithstanding. JSU participates in NC-SARA; the School of Nursing can say whether it also holds New York approval.
Will my New York RN license work for clinicals in Alabama?
Not on its own. New York issues single-state licenses only, so clinical hours in Alabama would call for an Alabama license. After a move to one of JSU's five compact states you would license there instead; JSU's catalog ties its rule to your current state of clinical practice.
Is the MSN in Population Health available to New York residents?
JSU prints no state list for the MSN and asks anyone outside Alabama to contact the School of Nursing before applying. Practicum hours in New York would trigger NYSED's registration rule, so raise both questions together; the MSN Population Health page covers the practicums.
