Oklahoma residents weighing a JSU nursing program
Oklahoma falls outside the five-state group JSU draws on for its FNP and AGACNP tracks, a group made up of Alabama and the four states that border it: Tennessee, Georgia, Florida and Mississippi. For the Post-Master's DNP and the population health master's, JSU posts no state list and asks out-of-state applicants to get in touch before applying. Oklahoma also sets license conditions for outside APRN students and offers some preceptors a tax credit.

JSU's NP tracks are the APRN programs this rule has in mind, and they are closed to Oklahoma residents in any case. JSU's MSN and Post-Master's DNP lead to no APRN license and the rule says nothing about them, so ask the School of Nursing how an Oklahoma practicum or residency would be treated.
Practice authority, the compact and where nurses work
Oklahoma sits in AANP's restricted column. Prescribing is the sticking point: for its first 6,240 hours, an NP's prescribing happens under physician supervision that must be documented in writing, and Schedule II drugs stay off limits. For RNs, OBN has issued multistate licenses since January 19, 2018, the compact's start date in Oklahoma.

What a move to a JSU state would change
A move into JSU's five-state region is what opens the NP tracks, with admission left to JSU; see the five-state rule. All five are compact states, and the new home state would then license you in place of Oklahoma. Questions JSU students ask
Would an Oklahoma City or Tulsa address keep me out of JSU's FNP track?
Yes, for now. The FNP and AGACNP tracks consider applicants residing in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi or Tennessee, and Oklahoma is not on that list. Once one of those states is home you could apply, and JSU's admissions process makes the call.
Can my Oklahoma multistate license cover clinical hours in Alabama?
Yes, as long as Oklahoma remains home: Alabama's board accepts other compact states' multistate licenses for practice there unless Alabama is the nurse's primary residence. After a move to Alabama you would apply for an Alabama license instead, as the new home state.
Does Oklahoma reward NPs who precept?
Oklahoma's answer is an income tax credit for primary care preceptors licensed there as physicians, PAs or APRNs, with APRN students among the eligible learners. The Commission's rules and funding decide each claim, so a preceptor should check with the state's Health Care Workforce Training Commission directly.
