Florida residents fall inside the five-state boundary JSU draws around its BSN-DNP nurse practitioner tracks. JSU's other graduate programs publish no state list, and its standing request to anyone outside Alabama is to reach the School of Nursing before sending an application.

JSU's NP licensure disclosure carries the date October 15, 2021, and gives a firm answer only for Alabama. Florida shares the undetermined label with every other state; the disclosure guide unpacks the wording. Being considered is a first step, and admission still rests with JSU.
Florida's board and a graduate program from Alabama
Section 464.019 of the Florida Statutes governs approval of schools offering prelicensure nursing education, and the Board of Nursing frames its approval work around that same group. Research turned up no Florida requirement for a school based in another state to register, apply or notify the Board before its RN-BSN, graduate or APRN students log clinical hours in Florida. JSU and each site still keep their own requirements.
The license is where Florida's rules meet you. Florida's RN compact membership dates to January 2018, and with Florida as your home state, a multistate license lets you work as an RN in Alabama and the rest of the compact. The APRN Compact has not passed in Florida. Physician protocols, TEACH and Florida practice
On AANP's map, Florida is restricted: certain NPs stay bound to a physician protocol throughout their working lives, though exemptions exist. Your Florida NP preceptor may work under such a protocol, and its scope frames the patients and procedures you meet during your hours.
Florida's main clinical training incentive, the TEACH program in section 409.91256, is administered by AHCA and depends on legislative appropriations. It helps qualifying safety-net facilities, such as FQHCs, rural clinics and community mental health centers, with the time they spend teaching APRN and nursing students. Eligibility stops at Florida's borders: only students from accredited Florida-based programs count, so a JSU student's hours sit outside it.

A naming note, because searches mix the two up: Jacksonville, Florida is a separate city from Jacksonville, Alabama, where JSU's campus sits in Calhoun County. A JSU student living in northeast Florida studies online and makes the drive to Alabama for campus events.

JSU names orientation, hands-on simulation and the sharing of DNP project results as possible campus events, including a Dissemination Day in July. Does Florida require JSU to get approval before my NP practicum there?
Research found no Florida rule asking graduate or APRN programs from other states to seek Board approval or send notice before their students train in Florida; the approval statute targets prelicensure schools. Your site may still run its own agreement process with JSU, and JSU's faculty clear every preceptor and site before hours begin.
Is Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Florida?
No. JSU's campus is in Jacksonville, Alabama, in Calhoun County, and its nursing school is based at the JSU South Complex there. Florida's Jacksonville is a different city. Florida residents in JSU's online programs study from home and travel to Alabama for the campus events JSU requires.
Does a JSU student's clinical time count toward Florida's TEACH program?
TEACH supports qualified Florida facilities that train students from accredited programs based in Florida. JSU is an Alabama program, so a JSU student's hours fall outside it. That does not stop a Florida facility from hosting you; it only means that particular state funding stream is not part of the arrangement.
What RN license should I hold for JSU hours in Florida?
A Florida license, single-state or multistate, fits JSU's program-page rule, an RN license current somewhere in the U.S., and the catalog's rule, a license where your clinicals take place. If you plan any hours outside Florida, a multistate license from Florida travels to other compact states, and JSU must approve the new location.
How restricted is NP practice in Florida?
AANP puts Florida in its restricted group, where certain NPs practice under a physician protocol for as long as they practice, subject to exemptions. For a JSU student, it mainly means your NP preceptor may work within such a protocol, which shapes the patients and procedures you see during your hours.
