Baptist Health in Montgomery, a UAB-affiliated group with East, South and Prattville hospitals, handles student rotations through ACEMAPP, and its pages say APRN and APP students can request placements through the rotation applications there. That is the clearest published route for advanced practice students in the city, written for schools with agreements in place, and it says nothing about JSU. Jackson Hospital had no public student process when checked.
Neither fact settles whether a particular clinician can precept you. Together they show where many River Region clinicians practice and what extra onboarding a hospital-based site may bring. Rural practices beyond the city
Leave Montgomery in almost any direction and the setting turns rural. The Alabama Department of Public Health classes 58 of the state's 67 counties as rural, and HRSA's June 2026 summary puts primary care need met at roughly 63 percent statewide. Rural precepting carries a state incentive as well. Alabama's preceptor tax credit covers qualifying rotations in medically underserved rural areas for programs physically located in the state, and JSU is one; whether JSU has registered with the AHEC program office is not published. The table stops at per-course hours on purpose, because JSU's published program totals disagree; the BSN-DNP hours page explains the conflict. Post-Master's students take only the residencies, plus NU 5841 if they entered with fewer than 500 validated master's clinical hours.
The residency year from Montgomery
DNP residents need one site and one preceptor for 16 months, paired in late May during DNP 8796 or with the smaller August group. The project moves from a fall proposal and IRB application to a January start on site, eight to ten weeks of implementation with four on-site meetings, and results shared at the organization in July. We confirm that commitment with the preceptor before the pairing date, so the contract paperwork JSU's timeline calls for can move on schedule.

Campus days and why River Region students choose us
From Montgomery, the Jacksonville campus is a drive to the northeast. JSU names orientation, on-site simulation and the dissemination of scholarly projects as possible campus events for its online graduate students, and Dissemination Day falls in July; other dates are not published. We ask about those dates early so a River Region preceptor can plan around your absences, and a DNP preceptor learns ahead of time that project facility staff are invited to Dissemination Day.

JSU is not named there, and JSU names no placement portal for its NP students. Ask your course faculty whether a Baptist Health clinician is a workable option before you apply anywhere.
Are there NP preceptors in rural counties near Montgomery?
Clinicians practice in small towns throughout central and south Alabama, where the state counts most counties as rural. A rural practice can suit an FNP practicum well, and teaching there may qualify a preceptor for Alabama's tax credit for rural rotations. When should a Montgomery FNP student start looking for Practicum I?
