Jax State nursing and the Nevada rulebook
Living in Nevada puts JSU's FNP and AGACNP tracks out of reach, since Jax State limits NP applicants to five Southeastern states, none of them in the West. For the Post-Master's DNP and the Population Health MSN, which carry no printed state limit, start with the School of Nursing. Nevada adds its own approval rule for online programs seeking clinical time there, and it sits outside the compact.

Nevada's approval rule and license-first stance
Nevada writes its expectations for outside schools into NAC 632.703, and they ask a lot. Any program that teaches part of its curriculum on Nevada soil owes the Board a report filed on a Board form, attaching its accreditation or approval credentials and showing that it satisfies chapter 632, and it keeps sending school reports every year. Online and other nontraditional programs face an extra hurdle: Board approval comes before a single clinical hour in Nevada. Anyone on the faculty teaching in the state needs Nevada licensure.
The rule offers graduate programs no carve-out. The Board's roster dated September 1, 2026, naming outside schools approved for clinical-only instruction in Nevada, lists prelicensure ADN and BSN programs exclusively; JSU is absent. Before any Nevada site enters the picture for a JSU residency or practicum, the Board and JSU would need to settle whether approval applies.
Compact membership is absent in Nevada, and NCSBN's map records no bill to change that, so a Tennessee or Alabama multistate license buys nothing there. One Board practice decision spells out the consequence: treating a patient who is in Nevada requires a Nevada license, and hands-on clinical education is named as one of the activities it covers.
Practice, systems and population centers
In AANP's classification Nevada is full practice, with a prescribing asterisk: new NPs hold off on Schedule II prescriptions for their first two years, or first 2,000 hours, of clinical work, with a physician-approved protocol as the exception. Official sources showed no state preceptor incentive.
Roughly 2.41 million people live in greater Las Vegas by 2025 census estimates, compared with about 579,000 around Reno and about 59,000 in Carson City. In the south, Nevada nurses work for Sunrise, The Valley Health System, University Medical Center and Dignity Health's Las Vegas and Henderson hospitals; in the north, Renown Health dominates.
If you relocate to a JSU state
Shift your primary residence to one of JSU's five states and the NP tracks come into view, with admission still up to JSU. It also brings you into the compact for the first time, since all five are members and the license from your new home state can be multistate. Questions JSU students ask
Is JSU's online FNP track open to Las Vegas residents?
Not as a Nevada resident. JSU's NP tracks are open for consideration to residents of Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi and Tennessee only. Las Vegas nurses who move to one of them apply from their new home, where JSU's admission process takes over. For the Post-Master's DNP or MSN, contact the School of Nursing.
Would JSU need Nevada Board approval for a residency in Reno?
Nevada's rule points that way. NAC 632.703 bars internet-delivered programs from Nevada clinical instruction without Board approval and draws no line between prelicensure and graduate study. The Board's current clinical-only list names prelicensure programs alone, and JSU is not on it. Ask JSU and the Board before counting on any Nevada site.
Does a Nevada RN license help me in Alabama?
Not directly. Nevada is outside the compact, so its license covers Nevada only. Once Alabama or another of JSU's five states becomes your home, you would apply there, and the resulting multistate license would cover every compact state. Alabama's Board of Nursing has the application steps.
Does Nevada limit how many students one preceptor takes?
It does. The Board's 2005 practice decision sets the ceiling at two students at once, and the preceptor works on site with them. Faculty direct each clinical experience and stay available by phone, while the school supplies preceptors with an orientation and objectives on paper.
