Arizona and Jacksonville State's nursing programs
Living in Arizona puts JSU's two nurse practitioner tracks out of reach: Jacksonville State considers FNP and AGACNP applicants from five Southeastern states that do not include Arizona. Its Post-Master's DNP and MSN in Population Health list no states, and JSU asks anyone outside Alabama to call on the School of Nursing before applying. Arizona adds an approval step of its own.

For every state except Alabama, JSU's 2021 NP licensure disclosure reads "Not yet determined," Arizona included. JSU also takes part in NC-SARA; the licensure disclosure page explains both.
Arizona wants outside APRN programs approved first
For a JSU student, the catch in Arizona is the Board of Nursing's claim over APRN education delivered from anywhere. Its APRN advisory opinion, last revised in November 2020, puts program approval ahead of the first Arizona clinical hour, whichever state the school calls home. An Alabama-based program would reach the quicker review only if Alabama's board approves the specific track and the school's national accreditation is in good standing.
Once approved, a school keeps reporting. It follows the licensure of everyone involved, from the program director to each student, logs where students go, and supplies data whenever the Board surveys or audits it. JSU's Arizona standing is unconfirmed, so raise any plan for an Arizona practicum or residency with the School of Nursing early.
Licenses on both sides of an Arizona clinical
Students on these placements hold an RN license without restrictions, issued by Arizona or as a multistate license. Preceptors come by one of two routes: an APRN whose unrestricted RN license sits alongside Arizona APRN certification, or a physician with an unrestricted Arizona medical license. R4-19-217 adds that a distance program's clinical supervising faculty hold licensure in whichever state the clinical is located.
Compact membership dates to January 2018, and on AANP's scale Arizona NPs have full practice authority.
Phoenix, Tucson and the systems around them
The Phoenix-Mesa-Chandler metro counted roughly 5.2 million people in the 2025 census estimates, and Tucson came in near 1.1 million, ahead of Prescott Valley-Prescott and Lake Havasu City-Kingman. Systems you would meet across the state include Mayo Clinic in Arizona, Banner Health (whose academic arm is Banner - University Medicine), Tucson's TMC Health, Scottsdale-based HonorHealth, and Phoenix Children's.
Heading east to a JSU NP state
Taking up residence in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi or Tennessee is what opens the NP tracks, and even then JSU's admissions review makes the call. The four outside Alabama each view an Alabama program's clinicals their own way; the Georgia and Florida guides are good places to start.
Every one of the five is a compact state. Your Arizona multistate license covers practice in them while Arizona is home, and a permanent move shifts the license to the new home state. Current JSU graduate students sign an out-of-state residence statement at enrollment, and a later change of state needs approval before they continue.

Questions JSU students ask
Can a Phoenix nurse apply to JSU's AGACNP track?
Not from an Arizona address. JSU limits consideration for its BSN-DNP nurse practitioner tracks to residents of five Southeastern states, a note printed on its graduate nursing page. A nurse who relocates to one of them would apply as a resident there, and JSU's review still decides admission.
Would an Arizona practicum for a JSU program need Board approval?
Arizona's opinion answers yes for APRN programs, with approval required ahead of any clinical hours in the state. JSU's MSN in Population Health and Post-Master's DNP do not lead to NP licensure, and the opinion addresses APRN programs, so confirm with the School of Nursing how an Arizona placement would be handled before building plans around one.
Does Arizona reward preceptors who teach a JSU student?
Not in any way that looks active. Arizona's statute A.R.S. 36-1806 created grants for qualifying preceptors of graduate students, APRN students covered and rural primary care placements favored, with the Arizona Nurses Association among the nonprofits handing the money out. The budget staff's FY 2027 report shows nothing appropriated in either fiscal 2026 or fiscal 2027.
Does my Arizona multistate license work in Alabama?
Yes, while Arizona stays your primary residence. Alabama's Board of Nursing says a valid multistate license from another compact state removes the need for an Alabama RN license unless Alabama is your primary state of residence, so moving there for good means applying in Alabama.
